The mechanic is charging $1050 to repair a blown head gasket. He says the car should run for another 3 to 4 years. Is it worth fixing? He says the engine is ok. What causes the engine to overheat? Wil the head gasket blow again if the engine still overheats?
What else probably needs to be repaired as a result of the head gasket leaking?
Is this problem worth fixing? It's my son's car, and he can't afford another one right now.

Worth or not is your decision to make, we can't help on this.

Can the mechanic assure you that this amount would be all you need to pay to solve the problem or it is only for replacing the gasket?

Overheating that can result in head gasket failure are mainly due to lack of coolant in cooling system due to leaks from components such as water pump, hoses, radiator, heater core etc. If the cooling fans are not working correctly, overheating would occur.

All cooling system components have to be checked and tested, replaced if necessary.
