1996 Ford Taurus, oil light flashing and car won't start.

The oil light suddenly started flashing, the car died and now it won't start. The car does have oil in it.

Yeah, but the pump probably went out. The "diagnostic" lights on the dashboard only come on when a serious problem EXISTS, not to warn you one is about to occur. Pull one of the valve covers and have someone turn the crankshaft using a ratchet and socket and watch to see if you see oil being pumped. Does the engine turn over at all?
