My car took water in thru the air intake. Anyway it's running now but when standing still out of gear it hunts in it's idling. Around 2000 to 3000, also, since I cleand the intake I can now remove the inlet air intake so the sensor is not in operation & it continious to hunt. Before it was steady at 5000 rpm. What sensors actually affect the idling and how to test each one. Thanks.

They all contribute data but the Idle Air Control actually controls the idle RPM.

Thanks for the reply. In fact each time I start the engine it does something different. Before, if I took the air inlet pipe off at the manifold it stalled, now it hunts? The sensor on the gearbox, speed one I think it damaged, would that contribute? Why would all this change because I took water into the air intake. I cant afford the tests etc so am desperate here, thanks again.
