I have a 96 chevy lumina. It died on me while driving down the road. I had it towed to a mechanic. After it sat for two days and the mechanic looked it over it started up without a problem. I drove it home and the next morning it wouldn't start again. When I try to start it, it just cranks over and now it sounds like it is getting worse again. What could be the problem?

A lot of cranking will run down the battery. Make sure the battery has a full charge, you can't test anything without a full charge. Intermittent problems are a pain to locate. You have to test when the problem is ongoing. When the problem occurs, have a helper crank it while you visually check for spark at the plugs, if spark everywhere, use a gage and check fuel pressure. You may also need to use a noid lite and check for injector pulse. An intermittent rpm signal is one possibility. There many possibilities?
