how do u check the distributor to see if its firing

you need to verify 12 volts to the distributor. then you need to make sure it is turning. then you remove a wire and check for spark.

You could connect an inductive type timing light to any spark plug wire; and see if it is firing.

Probably your vehicle is not running; and your trying to determine 'why'?

A bunch of different sensors and components can be the reason. Get yourself a good manual (like Factory) with good info; and this will help you out a lot. They have flow charts and diagnostic trails to follow.
