1995 ford windstar, 171,000 miles. Temp guage indicated overheating so changed thermostat and a sensor, subsequently dealer said I had a blown head gasket. I just drove 1400 miles over two days at 70 mph, got 28mpg and no probs. Could this be done with a blown head gasket?

Not likely, easy way to test for head gasket issue is to remove radiator cap when COLD. Start vehicle and rev engine. If coolant blows out of cap opening than there is issue.
