The manual transmission wont go into gear while running, but if you put it in first or reverse before starting then it will move but doesn't' feel like the clutch disengages. Two mech gave two diff diagnosis, one said clutch problems $30to $300. The other said it was the sync gear in the transmission up to $1600, I am on a fixed income and not sure what to do if you could please help me decide or give me any info to make an educated decision I would sure appreciate it

Stop on a hill, stop the engine, and put it in gear. The truck should start to coast downhill when you push the clutch pedal down. If it does, the clutch is working. If you have a hydraulic clutch, they cause a pile of trouble. If the truck doesn't start to coast, the clutch isn't releasing.

Typically, if a synchro is worn, you can start the engine when it's already in gear, and you can push in the clutch and stand there. When you release the clutch, the truck will move like normal and you'll be able to shift to the other gears. You will likely hear grinding when slowing down and down-shifting back into first gear.
