When going up a hill and accelerating the engine starts to cut out around 50 mph but does not do it on level ground or going down hill. The engine feels like it missing and runs really rough. It loses power till I slow down to about 35-40 mph but still can not increase spped up hill.

Fuel starvation due to a fault in the tank pick up maybe, will it do it with a full tank? If it is missing and labouring you may have faulty coils and leads breaking down under load.
