Could you put some punctuation in there? I'm not sure I understand what you did already, but there should be a nut on one piece that can spin but it will not come off. A special bolt with two, ... Uhm, ... Wings, I guess, for lack of a better description goes though the hole. You have to spin the nut to draw the bolt in. A standard bolt can allow the coupler to separate. Part of the steering shaft is collapsible in case of a crash. There is a raised spot on the shaft that retains it by that bolt. A regular bolt could allow that shaft to slide up and come out of the coupler. Insurance adjuster love to find things like that. If you need that special bolt, they are all the same so you can find a bunch of them in any salvage yard.
