put it in to 4x4 but it grinds going in and out

wont move is the problem transfer case or transmission you can put it in to 4x4 but it grinds going in and out. please help

Just to clarify the issue, if the vehicle does not move when you are giving it throttle in 2WD then we have an issue with the transmission.

We need to start by checking the fluid as this is the likely cause of this.

However, if the issue is only when you are putting it in 4WD that it grinds then this is not uncommon for it to grind as you are messing gears and they will grind. Again, we want to check the fluid.

The normal issue with grinding when engaging the transfer case is the actuator but if you have a manual shift then this is either a fluid issue or the shift fork is just wearing out.

Let's start with clarifying the issue and then run through this info and go from there.

I am attaching some info from the manual on a common issue so we can review this as well.
