Hi,
The first thing you will need to check is for the presence of 12volts on the small wire going to the starter solenoid when the key is turned to the start position. If there is no power present when key is turned to start, the problem will most likely be the ignition switch. This switch is mounted on top of the steering column, under dash. It is operated by a rod that extends when you turn the Ignition cylinder (key) on right of steering column. This is a somewhat common failure on the older Jeeps. Note the wire color of the solenoid wire you checked at starter, then locate the same wire on the ignition switch atop column- check at this location for power, or lack thereof. If there is power there when key is turned to start, you have a broken wire going to the starter, if not, replace switch. Hope this was helpful, Doc
