My 1994 Ford Ranger transmission (automatic) will go into gear but every gear is over drive, drive, or 1, 2. Why?

I think I know what you're asking, but can you give a little more clarity on your issue before I go into detail? Thanks!

Well the tranny only is allowing the truck to go forward in every gear and not just the ones its suppose to. For example when I but it in reverse it goes forward same thing with all the other gears even park wants to go forward but something is stopping it.

Could be that the linkage is busted. Try to follow the shifter all the way to the transmission. See if anything looks broken or loose. I hope it's part of the external linkage, and not internal which would require tranny removal. Let me know what you find.

I checked everything just now and it looked fine the only thing is where the shifter hooks up there is another line above it that was off but no difference was made when reattached. And it started doing all this after I pulled the pan off and loosen a nut to pull the sifter linkage out to replace a seal located right behind it.

Oh, did not know you were in there. Looks like you need to pull the pan again. You need to make sure you're re-installing the shifter linkage correctly. I'm away from any reference right now, I'll try to look at the procedure when I get home.
