I have a 1994 Ford F350 crew cab 4x4. I installed a new fuel filter/water separator a month or so before, and driving home the Fuel filter light came on and instantly the engine died. I took the filter off, checked it, it had a bit of crap in it, put a new filer on, fired the truck and away it went. It happened again yesterday, turned a corner, light came on, engine died. Took the filter off, pulled it apart, checked it. Dead clean. Filled the filter back up with diesel, put it on, fired up and drove on. What gives guys?

Maybe there was some air leaking in causing stall second time? If it happens again, then be concerned?

What it is the heater element in the bottom of the filter housing that is shorting out, if you take out the filter you will see the heater in the bottom and it will be loose. The tack welds break on the sides. Replace the heater and you will be good.
