Change the oil on my truck. 1993 Toyota pick up with the V6 3VZ-E stock motor. Put 5 Otrs in it. It reads 1/2 to 3/4 up on the dip stick. The Manual reads it takes 4.7. Should I just go by the dip stick, or should I go by the book?

Are you changing the filter at the same time?

Yea I went to AutoZone. They looked up the number for the oil filer. Made sure its right. I drained the oil. Took the oil filter out. Then added a full 5 qtr. Jug. I didn't spill any, or nothing. Its been awhile since I changed the oil. Like I was saying the owners manual reads 4.5 qtr. With the filter on. The truck been in one place parked for 4 hrs. The dip stick reads 1/2 full.

When you say half full, do you mean it shows that it is low on oil? If it does, I would recommend that you just top it off. You are most likely using an aftermarket filter that may have a different capacity.
