Yes, we have the dreaded fifth gear pop out on our SE-R. It is a common problem with these cars and there is a kit to eliminate the fifth gear pop out, but that involves taking the transmission apart and does not guarantee it will not happen again. Another option is to get another transmission. Anyone know what year(s) would be compatible with the 1993? Anyone have any luck replacing their transmission with a newer model's transmission? Fifth gear pop out happens a lot for 1991-1994 Sentra's from my understanding due to the way it was built. Also, anyone drive their car without fifth gear for longer distances? Thanks!

Looks like 1993 and 1994 only because it is the SE-R with the 2.0. But any transmission that is used will probably have the same issue. I would probably use the kit or get a rebuilt unit if you do not want to tear it apart yourself. As for driving it in fourth, not a big deal, the engine will rev higher and use more fuel but it will not damage it.

Thanks Steve W. Yeah we have the 2.0 SR20 motor in there. Lots of power but that 5th gear pop out is such a bummer! We're planning to just drive it til it dies. We got it for free so it won't be a huge loss, have maybe $300 into it for tires & other little odds & ends. It does 1st to 4th gears all just fine so we'll see how long we last.
