Will not move down from there. how can i get it to move down? i can hear the motor trying to move it down when i move the control down, so i suspect that its just a broken gear or something like that preventing the column from moving down.

This DIY worked for me. Did it a year ago and no problems since. Used a garden hose washer.

Real easy. if you can hear the motor working it's just the gear. I just flipped the old one and it works fine. I did order a new one on ebay for $20. youtube has a how-to vidio
