my 1993 ford fairmont was running good when all of a sudden the battery light came on the i went from having a fully charged battery to nothing but the car was still runnig then it went from running at a normal temp to being in the red have i done the head gasket or do i have bigger problems

It sounds like you may have lost the drive belt to start with. The head gasket issue just depends on how hot you let it get before shutting it off.

It's easy to tell if the belt is missing but the head gasket testing requires some testing.
