will a weak battery in a '93 caprice with a 5.7 prevent the starter sol. form fully engaging, it does not chatter it clicks, and when i hit it i can hear it moving back. It happened before and it cranked good when it started

A weak battery will cause no crank-just a bunch of rapid clicks or nothing at all-Sounds like a starter motor overrunning clutch problem/replace the starter if the battery and connections are good-
