How can I narrow down which component to change first. Starter, battery, voltage regulator, ignition switch?

1992 Pontiac SE Starting problem: All of a sudden when turning ignition nothing no noise. Tapped the battery terminals and it started. No problem for two starts after. Then it happened again. I cleaned battery terminals. Tried jumping battery for 5 minutes. But battery wouldnt charge. Before I buy a battery, I can I determine if: Its the battery, voltage regulator, ignition switch or starter? I don't have a voltmeter.

You will need to get the alternator charge rate tested, and get a load test done on the battery, this should be done with a fully charged battery, I would start with these two tests first.
