The brake lights are stuck on all the time even when the car is shut off, in park, and keys removed. I have to remove the fuse so the battery doesn't die. I can't get my car legal to drive until I find this thing and replace it, only thing is I can't find where the switch is at! Everyone says its above the break pedal but I cant find it anywhere. Please help.

Thank you for the fast response. I will look for it again when I go out to mess with the car. I've seen pictures of the part before but I just can't locate it in the car its self. Thanks again!

Ok I know it's been months but I'm just getting around to fixing that piece of crap. I found the brake light switch, or at least the wires for it. There is NOTHING behind the brake pedal. Just the break pedal itsself. The wire leads up through the wiring harness and it's all wrapped in with the other wires like it came from the factory. I unplug it and the brake lights and tail lights go out. Can you give me any information on this please? I can take a pictures and attach them if needed. Thank you.

So are you still having a problem? Is the switch button getting pressed by the brake pedal arm when it's released?

Yeah I see the part in the picture you posted, but that black box thing is not anywhere near the pedal. I can't find it at all. I found the plug with the six prongs and unplugged it and the brake lights went out, but the wires from it lead up into the dash and are all wrapped with the other wires. I'm completely confused.

I guess a picture might help. It sounds like the switch came apart and the plunger isn't turning it off.

Yup. I'm always checking back every few minutes between about noon and 4:00 a.M, except when I take a nap and my head hits the desk! I get an automated e-mail to direct me back here when you add a reply.

So where IS the switch? That plug looks like the data link connector. It is always blue and near the steering column. That is for connecting a scanner to talk back and forth with the Air Bag Computer, Transmission Computer, Body Computer, and ABS Computer if you have one.

There is a similar female connector body on the end of the brake switch wires but it is usually black. If what you have in the third picture is in fact for the brake light switch you should be able to follow it to the switch. I think though, since you said it goes into the wiring harness, you need to find a different connector, a black one, for the brake light switch.

Right, but shouldn't the switch its self be right there with the pedal? There is no switch there, don't think there ever has been, unless I broke it off when changing out the steering column. But even then there should be some frayed wires hanging right? And when I unplug that blue connector the brake lights go out, but the tail lights stay on. Thought for sure this was the one I was looking for. Blah, this is so frustrating.

I just marched out and looked at my vehicles. I have a '92 Dynasty which is similar to your car. The brake light switch connector is black, and the wiring goes into a harness that goes through the firewall just a few inches left of the brake pedal. The blue data link connector is further back just under the lower edge of the dash.

Find that black connector and follow it to the other end. I'm hoping you stumble across the switch that fell out of its mounting hole and is hiding.

Nothing leading out near the brake pedal except the shift cable from the steering column. I don't know, probably just gonna take it into the shop and have them mess with it, I'm obviously not getting anywhere. Thank you for your help sir, I appreciate it.

No, the plug is not under the hood. I meant the plug it connects to has wires that go into a harness that goes through a rubber grommet, then through the firewall and under the hood, ... At least that's how it is on my Dynasty. There's gotta be a black 6-pin connector up there somewhere.

Yeah there has to be, but the only six pin connector I can find is blue and leads up the wires behind the dash. My step dad works at a tire shop and is gonna have the mechanics that work there check AllData. Com for instructions or something tomorrow. Thanks again for your help man.
