I was driving and my steering column became difficult to turn. as I looked under the hood I noticed none of the engine belts were turning. the car still runs an is drivable but quite unclear as to why the belts aren't turning.....please help

Make sure they are tight. If they are, remove the belts and check each belt driven accessory to see if one is locked up. If I recall, the waterpump is belt driven. Make sure the engine isn't overheating.
