1991 Pontiac Lemans car is overheating

I just replaced the timing belt, water pump, and thermostat, and it will overheat out of nowhere, usually when it is cool out. It will go for days or weeks without doing it. It has also overheated when we are sitting in a drive thru or when the motor is idling

First check if the radiator fan is turning on when the engine gets hot. If it is, consider having your mechanic do a chemical test at the radiator to check for a leaking cylinder head gasket. Since the problem doesn't act up all the time, that test must be done while the overheating is occurring to be accurate.
