That totally depends on how it is treated. Most Cats don't die a natural death. They are killed by operating on engines that are not running efficiently and dumping deposits into the converter. The law requires that they be warranted for a minimum of 5yr/50K but many warranties go well beyond that. This does not mean you are automatically covered if the car caused the failure.
