Transmission problem
1991 Chevy Silverado V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 240k miles

I have a problem with my 4x4 I think it is eletrical, When I put the truck in 4L the front acuater engages but in 4H it does not. There are two plugs going into the transfer case would one of these be the problem? Thank's for any any help I can get.

That kind of defies reason. The system works to engage the front diff from a electric switch on the transfer case that when put in 4wd it pushes a ball inside the switch that makes a connection and engages the front diff. I have never seen a case where it worked in 4 low but not in high. First thing you should check is make sure the front drive shaft from the transfer case isspinning in 4 high. If its not then problem is linkage or transfer case.

Dear 4xguy,

I was wondering if you figured out the problem with your four wheel drive? I have the exact same problem.

Thanks,

Kyle

I have a 91 Chevy Silverado 1500 4.3 V6. I replaced the acutuator for the four wheel drive. It worked for about 2 weeks and now it wont engage at all. What maybe be wrong with it to cause this?
