I have a 1990 Oldsmobile cutlass cierra. A few weeks ago it rained cats and dogs and my windows were down. The next morning the car would not start. I sprayed starting fluid into the air intake and it started. I can shut it down and start it back up as many times as I want for 2 hours after 2 hours I have to respray starting fluid. I thought it was the fuel pump so I learned how to change that but it still didn't help. Next I changed the fuel pump fuse and the fuel relay. On some days it would start if I just took the air filter off and I wouldn't have to spray anything in there. But last night it rained very bad again and now to my surprise I had to call off work because it wont start at all, not even if I use starting fluid. I checked all my wires and I am getting power to them also checked the plug to the fuel injectors there is power. Last year about this time I changed the fuel filter and the mass air flow sensor. I did the paper clip thing that gives you codes that can diagnose your car and only code 12 came up but the internet said that code 12 is supposed to come up it shows that you did the test correctly. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Even if the pump is brand new doesn'tmean it works. It has to be checked to see if relay is sending power or a fuse blown etc. You should have the pressure I said in last reply at the fuel rail that may be why it doesn't start now or on wet days or plug wires etc. Have a pro check this out.

Just wanted to update you, I took it to a shop and it turned out that the oil pressure sending unit was the problem. Who knew? I would have never guessed.

Thanks for the reply the switch does stop the pump from working if bad or no oil pressure it's aprotection device so you don't screw up the engine. You got it fixed and that is the important thing.
