I just put a new engine in my 1990 Jeep cherokee and now I have it running. I have set the timimg and it idles smooth as glass but when I give it some gas and turn up the RPM's it runs really rough and wants to die. What could be causing this?

Have you checked for vacuum leaks? Has the check engine light come on? Have you checked fuel pump pressure? Were all the sensors from the old engine the same as the new one? Is there any backfiring?

Yes all sensors are the same that came out. As for backfiring the answer is yes when I give it gas it seems to backfire on the same stock every time. There is no check engine light on. I have not checked fuel pump pressure but when the other engine was in it everything worked fine. And I put the old intake and trottle body on the new engine because I knew that it all was operating fine on the old engine.

Check engine compression. It may have a burnt valve. Also, make sure the EGR isn't carboned shut and is working properly.
