WE NEED COMPRESSION----FUEL AND SPARK TO MAKE THIS THING BUST OFF
WE'RE GONNA ASSUME THAT COMPRESSION IS FINE
FUEL OR SPARK IS MOST LIKELY MISSING
THE EZist THING TO TRY 1ST IS A 2 SECOND SQUIRT OF STARTER FLUID OR A SPOONFUL (OR 2) OF GAS DOWN THE CARBURETOR
TRY ITDOES IT FIRE UP----TRY TO---SPIT AND SPUTTER?
OR IS IT JUST "DRY" OVER AND OVERS AND OVERS?
OK ----IF IT WAS THE DRY OVER AND OVERS----FUEL MAY NOT BE THE PROBLEM
LET'S TRY THIS
PULL #1 WIRE OFF OFF THE PLUG
INSERT A NAIL/ PAPERCLIP/ ETC IN THE BOOT SO THAT IT IS IN BETWEEN THE METAL RING AND RUBBER----IT IS "STICKING OUT" OF THE BOOT NOW, STILL TOUCHING THE METAL RING INSIDE
HOLD WIRE SEVERAL INCHES BACK FROM THE BOOT. SO YOU DON'T GET SHOCKED
HOLD THE NAIL ABOUT 3/16 TO 1/4 OF AN INCH FROM ANY SHINY METAL PART OF THE ENGINE
LET'S STAY AWAY FROM THE FAN. AND BELTS!
HAVE YOUR PAL TURN THE ENGINE OVER
DO YOU GET A NICE "POPPING" SPARK JUMPING FROM THE NAIL TO THE ENGINE?
I "DO" CJs---YOURS MOST LIKELY AIN'T MUCH DIFFERENT----THE EARLY WRANGLERS ARE SIMILAR
WHAT ENGINE DO YOU HAVE.I HOPE A 258 (4.2L)
GIMME ANY MORE DETAIL YOU CAN---INCLUDING WHAT YOU HAVE MONKEYED WITH!
WHAT HAS BEEN MODIFIED OVER THE YEARS?
DO YOU HAVE A DIGITAL VOLTMETER? ABLE TO USE IT?
SEND BACK YOUR RESULTS THUS FAR----SO I CAN DETERMINE WHAT WE NEED TO LOOK FOR NEXTWITHOUT "THROWING PARTS " AT IT---IN AN ORDERLY FASHION----MAYBE SAVING TIME
