I believe it slipped timing because it was running very well then made a quick sound and started smoking and ran like a junker and now it wont even start unless I pump the throttle and then still sounds terrible and wont idle or anything now it wont even start, so can I retime it and how?

After letting it sety about 2 monthes I started it and it started right up like ussual then while it was sitting there at an idle I heard a weird sound not a bang or rod braking it was just a weird sound and it started wanting to quit I pushed on gas pedal and white smoke started coming out of exaust and when I finally shut it off would not start again so I baught new distributer cap put on and it started real hard but did start had to pump gas like heck and now it lookes like gas leaking into oil pan someone told me its getting too much gas so changed oil and had to use starting fluid to get it started again then backfired and carb was on fire thats why I think it sliped timing but not sure isnt there away I can tell its in time before trying to start again?

Does oil look normal or like a chocolate malt? Remove plugs and crank observe plug holes anycoolant come out? Then do a compression test record results and post will be able to tell if in time or some internal problem.
