Hi there!
1988 Jeep Wrangler here has a temperature gauge that has stopped working recently. It seems to get power because when I turn the ignition on the temperature gauge's needle jumps. But I drive long enough for the motor to warm up and the needle stays put and doesn't move.

Would this be the temperature sensor that's located on the manifold?

where's that CJ Medevac at!

Hey pal my Jeep is still kickin fella!

Talk to you soon!

RAZ

IS THIS CORRECT?

REMOVE CONNECTOR, VIOLET ON SENDER TO A GROUND WILL MAKE TEMP GAUGE MAX OUT?

OR

REMOVE CONNECTOR "JUMP" BOTH WIRES ON CONNECTOR, TO EACH OTHER WILL MAKE GAUGE RISE?

OR

BOTH WOULD WORK, ONE METHOD OR THE OTHER WOULD VERIFY BAD GAUGE OR ONE OF THE 2 WIRES TO SENDER MAY BE OPEN?

IF SO, TRACKING THEM THROUGH, FOR A BREAK

OF COURSE, KEY ON, FOR EITHER SCENARIO!

?

I HAVE BEEN REVIEWING THE DIAGRAMS.I DO NOT SEE WHERE THE OTHER WIRE (NOT VIOLET) IS AT. ANYWHERE.I AM ASSUMING IT IS A GROUND?

SO THIS IS WHERE I STAND WITH THE WHOLE DEAL.

THE SENDER IS BAD.

THE GAUGE IS BAD.

THE VIOLET WIRE IS OPEN.

THE OTHER WIRE ON THE SENDER IS OPEN.

OTHER GAUGES WOULD NOT FUNCTION IF IT WERE A FUSE.

OR SOMETHING OPEN NEAR THE GAUGE.

THE TEST ABOVE MIGHT RULE SOME OF THIS OUT, OR POINT TO THE SENDER, FOR OVER $60

I DO HAVE ALL OF THE '88 WIRE DIAGRAMS DOWNLOADED. IF YOU/ ANYONE WANTS 'EM, LET ME KNOW!

RAZ WHAT'S THE TEST, POINTING TO THE SENDER?

Hey buddy! Howya doin CJ MEDVAC! Long time no hear!

Say I still need to replace that temp sensor. I found one and I'm fixin to see if I can swap out the broke one.

But another issue arouse for me.

My Power Steering Pump is leaking like a get-out! So I located a replacement and I have to swap out that too.

Would you have any pointers? Is there like special one time use crush washers on anything I need to replace while I'm doing this task? I can't tell where the leak is coming from (it is underneath the pump) but both of the Power Steering hoses seem to look all right.

Would you have any pointers bud?

Thanks partner!

INSURE IT AIN'T JUST A HOSE LEAKING

USE A GOOD STRONG FLASHLIGHT AND A HAND/ INSPECTION/ GIRLFRIENDS MIRROR OR COMPACT TO LOOK IT OVER WELL.

KEEP US POSTED ON HOW IT'S GOING
