87 Dodge Dakota has no power to dash or ignition

Do you have an under-hood light and does it work? If not, check for voltage on the large output wire bolted to the back of the alternator. If there is 0 volts, check the black bullet connector behind the battery. It's in the 8 gauge wire coming off the battery positive terminal.
