I own a 1987 Chrysler New Yorker and the engine is apparently no good. I was told by the Chrysler dealership it will cost thousands of dollars to have a new one put in. None of the salvage yards near me have the engine I need. I don't know if I would be able to sell the car in its current condition or if this is fixable without putting a new engine in it. If it is fixable, where could I take it? I am lost, please help!

The 2.5L is a very tough and reliable engine with a real low failure rate. All cities have a lot of independent repair shops that can provide a second opinion. These engines are all over the place in salvage yards unless obama's disastrous cash-for clunkers law took them away.

Unless something serious happened inside the engine, most shops will be able to diagnose and repair it rather than replace it. Dealership service departments concentrate on vehicles that are just a few years old. Often you won't find mechanics there that are familiar with your '87 New Yorker or my '88 Grand Caravan.
