I have a 1986 chevy silverado with dual fuel tanks and the fuel gauge will only go up to 1/4 tank on both tanks when they are both full. The gauge will fall to empty but I will still have plenty of gas left in the tanks. What would cause this?

There is a fuel gauge tester. Find a shop with one or you need to drop the tank and remove the sending unit. You move the float arm back and forth and check the fuel gauge operation.I think its got bad sending units.
