How do I install a mechanical fuel pump in my 1985 gmc sierra

It's fairly straight forward. If you have a basic set of sockets and wrenches. Remove the fuel lines, remove fuel pump bolts, remove pump. There is a rod that operates the pump arm, you need to be sure the rod is pushed up when installing the new pump. Sometimes that rod slides down into the pump cavity.
