Hello guys! My 78 thunderbird 351 is shaking while in idle. Here's what I've done lately, kind of in order:

new spark plugs
new distributor cap
new rotter
rebuilt starter
new fuel pump & fuel filter
new refurbished alternator
new battery post clamps
good battery

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Joe

Hey Joe,

Have you checked for Vacuum Leaks and/or checked the Motor Mount? These can give the engine the feel of a misfire.

Hello Obxautomedic,

I have not. Can you point me in the right direction about how to check for these? It's kind of new territory for me.

Any video or image link would be super helpful.

Thanks
Joe

Here's what you can do - This is the preferred way, If you have a Propane Torch get a piece of hose that will fit over the end, crack it open just a little and slowly run it around the vacuum hoses, around the carb gasket and the Intake. Or.(NOTE - DO THIS WHILE ENGINE IS COLD) take a can of carb cleaner with tube and do the same. Just spray a little area at a time. Look for any broken, soft or collapsed hoses. You can look for videos on youtube. Check you in box.

As far as the Motor Mount you just take a good close look at them while vehicle is running if there is a lot of movement and the Rubber part look cracked and/or broke replace them.
