Transmission will not go into gear

After changing the transmission filter and filling to show full on dipstick truck will not go into gear.

A couple things come to mind for me. first is to make sure the filter is in correctly some filter can pop out causing the pump to suck air. The next thing is to check the transmission fluid is the correct fluid for the car it not like the good old days where transmission fluid is transmission fluid. It needs to be the right stuff.
