Have Vortec 6 c. No problems replaced the distributor and cap, rotor, plug and wires. Drove it, 3 or 4 hundred miles ran great. Then the engine shut off. No spark, put it on a scanner, code p1345 came up. Cam sensor. Replaced it still no start. Pulled plug wire still no fire? Can you help me out?

Hi,

This could be a faulty crankshaft position sensor. It's possible for this sensor to fail and not set a code. Take a look through this link:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/symptoms-of-a-bad-crankshaft-sensor

There are two ways we can check this easily. First, if the truck has a tachometer, see if it moves a bit when cranking the engine.

A better way to confirm is to use a live data scanner. If you have one, check for an RPM signal when cranking.

I attached a pic below of the sensor's location. Make sure it isn't damaged and there are no wiring issues.

Let me know what you find.

Take care,

Joe

I replaced the crank sensor yesterday and still nothing. What about the coil and ignition module on that 4.3 vortex it has both in one?

By chance, did you note if the RPM gauge is moving when you crank the engine?

As far as the code you supplied, it indicates there is a correlation issue between the camshaft position sensor and the crankshaft position sensor. Do me a favor. If you haven't already, remove the distributor cap and have a helper crank the engine. Confirm the rotor is moving. If it is, then let's move on.

As far as the coil, if it is bad certainly it can cause this. I attached directions below for checking the coil. Take a look through them and let me know if you are comfortable performing them.

Also, at the coil, locate the pink wire. That wire should have 12v with the key on or in the start position. Confirm that is present. If it isn't, go to the under-hood fuse box and check the ECM 1 fuse and the IGN 1 fuses. In addition to confirming the fuses are good, make sure there is power present. Here is a link you may find helpful:

Let me know what you find or if you have questions.

Take care,

Joe

See pics below. Ignore the highlighted wires. I was tracing things. LOL

See pics below. In addition to the diagnostics, I included pics from the wiring schematic.
