Will not go into gear

My car drives but will not go into the next gear. Press the gas and it just revs up not going into gear.

No upshifting can be due to various reasons and the first thing to do is to check for trouble codes. A scan tool is required for the process. Check and ensure transmisison fluid level is correct.

Fluid level is all good and the code came out to 1698.

This is a trouble code stored in the engine control unit. It indicates the engine is not receiving CCD messages from the transmission control module (TCM). You need to retrieve trouble codes from the TCM. It couls be a fault with the TCM or its wiring circuits.
