Will not crank

Good evening,

Does the engine crank over? Trying to see if you mean it will not crank or it will crank and not start.

The car will not start, you wait about 30 or 40 minutes then it will start. this happens about 5 or 6 times.no check engine light is on.

P/S I hear the idle control valve making tapping noise when I turn the key on and when I turn the switch off.

Okay, that noise is normal for the idle control.

I would suggest replacing the ignition module in the distributor. That was a common failure for these back in the day.

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT


1. Remove distributor cap and rotor.
2. Remove two module attaching screws.
3. Lift up module and stamped metal shield, if equipped.
4. Disconnect leads from module. Observe color code on leads as these cannot be interchanged.
5. Remove module.

NOTE: Be sure there is a sufficient amount of silicone grease on the metal face of the module and on the distributor base (where the module seats), when reinstalling the module. The purpose of the silicone grease is to cool the module.


INSTALL OR CONNECT


1. Install module.
2. Connect leads to module.
3. Install module shield, if equipped, and module attaching screws.
4. Install cap and rotor.

I replace this module Jan.30/2020. I guest I need another one. This time the motor did not cut off while driving down the street.

Make sure you get a good one. The cheap ones do not last.

Make sure you use the grease in the box for mounting it. It keeps it from overheating and failing.
