This could be several things and may not even be related. What I suggest is to have the computer scanned. See what diagnostic trouble codes are stored. That will point us in the right direction. Once we know that, we can start eliminating possible causes otherwise it becomes a guessing game.

I realize most people don't own a scanner. However, often times a nationally recognized parts store will do it at no charge or even rent / lend you a scanner to check.
Start with this first and let me know what codes are found. I will watch for your reply.
