Wiring 12v radiator cooling fan

Purchased a radiator cooling fan from parts geek I had double checked via chat with their chat geek parts expert.. to verify the part was a 2 wire connector. He said it was 2 wire... And sent the link for that part via the chat.. I bought it via the link... Part gets here but its 3 wire pin connector.. the current fan 2 wires blk/blu the new fan 3wire blk/blu/red... Can I just use the old 2 pin connector by splicing it in ? Blu to Blu and Blk to blk and ignore the red wire...
