Opened up the door to my truck and it smelled like plastic burning. Started it up, noticed ABS light was on and tried taking it out of park but couldn't. Disconnected the park solenoid and went home. Narrowed the smell down to coming from the GEM module took apart and it had a burn mark on it and ordered the same numbered one and replaced. Connected the park solenoid shifts out of park just fine but ABS light is still on. The next day it was raining out and windshield wipers do not work. Also before replacing the GEM I noticed the power boost for the brakes were leaking a little fluid and figured I'd test the brake switch since I was ordering parts anyways. Tested the brake switch (5 wires) was told 2 are hot with 12v going to them. One has 12v the other only has 9v. Ran 12v to wire that only had 9v I think I back fed the GEM ABS light went off and wipers worked. Now I still have no windshield wipers and the ABS light is still on. I'm a little gun shy on applying 12v back to that wire. Any suggestions? Already checked wire connections, checked grounds. What am I missing here? I also checked fuses. Has less than a year old multi function switch.

Good morning,

Both issues have the GEM module in the mix.

Did you have it programmed to your truck before installing? The information for your truck must be uploaded into the module.

I attached a diagram for you to view.

Check the highlighted wires for the brake switch and be sure powers are correct at the brake light switch and after.

Does the GEM module still need to be reprogrammed if I ordered one with the exact number? I'm almost thinking there is something wrong with the one I had ordered. I have 30 days to return. Where do I take it for reprogramming, and what does that usually run for cost?

The part number is important but does not contain the information for your car.

A shop with the correct scan tool can program it for you as well as the dealer.

Pricing is about $125.00 to $150.00 for the programming.

Hey Roy, I have more information. Now the ABS light is off. Speedometer doesn't work and door chime is going off faintly. Still don't have wipers. And also the overdrive light is flashing. Didn't have time to check power at the wires yet. Could this just be a bad ground?

I doubt it. The overdrive light is an indication of a torque converter issue with the transmission.

Do your voltage checks and let me know.
