Hi,
What you described sounds like the switch itself is faulty. However, there was also a recall on the wiper motor itself for overheating issues that could have caused a fire. Something may be resulting from that issue.
I attached the recall information for you below. If you aren't sure if the motor was replaced, contact a dealership with your VIN number and see if they have record of it being replaced.
