Living in AZ where it is very hot. The rubber strip at the bottom of the front windshield has actually started to melt and can now be pulled away from the windshield. Is occurring in a patch of about 8 inches of the strip on the passenger side and the rest of the strip remains fine. Is this serious? What should I do?

That moulding is replaced with the windshield usually, but is not responsible for sealing the windshield in any way. Urethane sealer between the body and the windshield take on that job.

Oh gotcha. Is that something that should be replaced immediately or is it a minor problem?

Minor, it's just for aesthetics.
