Driving down the road, bam bam distributor cap flies off under the hood and truck shuts off. Okay, get new cap/rotor, coil still has spark. Not okay and still won't start, replaced module because looked as if it got a little hot. No start, test coil now no spark. Replace coil wires and plugs just to get it all out of the way and be good to go. Still no start. Got new battery for truck, old one tested bad, sounds better but no start so I adjusted timing to see if maybe I could find it's sweet spot nothing! Got compression tester got my top dead center/distributor is aligned and in time baby! Same thing no start but now I check my coil and once again no spark with 12v dc going into it. Not a mechanic, am a HVAC tech so I have good knowledge on putting things back together and what not. But this right here has me lost this time around. Please help.

Welcome to 2CarPros.

If the distributor cap blew off, I suspect the shaft in the distributor has an issue and hit it. Remove the cap and have a helper crank the engine. Is the rotor moving? Is there any excessive up and down or side to side play?

Let me know.

Joe
