I put a 2002 Dakota starter on my 1999 Dodge Dakota, it just whines. Well, is this starter bad? Or not the right fit?

Swapped the starter with one from a different year, and it just whines?

Hello,
The 2002 Dakota has the 4.7L V8 and uses a different starter.
You are hearing the wining noise as it is not engaging the flex plate the start the engine.
The OEM part number for the starter you will need is 56027702.
