Put in a reman trans 4l60e. It won't shift out of first it doesn't indicate the gear position. Several codes and several service warnings. What do I need to look at?

Hello,

There are a couple of reasons why there is no drive from the remanufactured transmission.

Is the transmission filled properly? Low transmission fluid can cause a pressure loss and therefore no drive.

How to check:
https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-and-add-transmission-fluid

A blocked transmission oil cooler or lines can cause no drive.
The entire transmission cooling system must be completely cleaned, hot flushed, and flow tested.
A restricted and/or contaminated transmission cooling system is the #1 cause of transmission failure. If the cooler is clogged, it must be replaced.

Did you reset the transmission adaptations with a suitable diagnostic tool.?
Reset the adaptive memory with a scan tool before operating a new transmission for the first time; disconnecting the battery is not sufficient. Are there any fault codes set?

How to check codes:

A big problem could be the installation of the torque converter. If not installed properly this will break the oil pump drive which in turn will cause not drive.

One of the most common issues with the 4L60E is a broken pump rotor due to improper torque converter installation. The following procedure should be followed to completely and correctly install the torque converter.

If the torque converter has been removed:
1. Spin the torque converter and push in towards the transmission.
2. Listen and feel for three distinct “clicks” as the torque converter engages each component (input shaft, stator support and pump rotor).

After torque converter installation or if the torque converter has not been removed:
Measure the distance between the torque converter mounting pad and bell housing face to verify torque converter is fully installed.

See image below for installed depth of torque converter.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Boris

Hello,

Looking at the Harbor freight web site they only list Zurich brand scan tools.
I am not familiar with this brand.

https://www.harborfreight.com/automotive/diagnostic-testing-scanning/code-readers-scanners/scanners.html

Usually Autel, or Snap on diagnostic tools should be able to carry out transmission adaptations.

Cheers, Boris
