We got a new battery and a new starter. The car turns on, everything has power, the radio works, the window rolls down, but it doesn’t make any noise at all when we try to start the engine. There’s no clicking or cranking noise, nothing happens, we do need to also replace the water pump and heater core but I don’t think that’s why the car won’t start.

Hi,

This can be the result of a few things. First, see if it changes if you try starting it in neutral. If there is no change, I need you to check the starter fuse. It is located in the under-hood fuse box. See pic 3 (number 15 fuse below). In addition to checking the fuse, it is important to check if it gets power. It will only have power with the key in the start position, so you will need a helper to check it. (Note: Pics 1 and 2 are the wiring schematic for the circuit. I attached it so you could have a reference.

If the fuse doesn't get power, then I need you to remove the crank relay in the same fuse box (number 55). Switch it with a different one having the same part number and see if the engine will start.

If there isn't a relay with the same part number, here is a link that explains how to check a relay and the relay circuit:

Do this and let me know what you find.

Take care,

Joe

Hi,

No problem. If you look below, I made a copy of your picture. In the pic, I circled the relay in question. In addition, I have an arrow pointing to the fuse that you need to check.

Let me know if this helps.

Take care,

Joe
