Hello,

We have the last problem with the Steering Assist. The car is repaired after a front car accident. There are all faulty items are fixed, but the Steering Assist works as reduced option. We replaced the old steering gear (Rack and Pinion Gear) with a used steering gear but from 2018 year.
Is it possible that the second steering gear is not the same as the original 2016? Is possible to replace some electronics from old/original 2016 to used housing 2018?
Or is this message about reduced steering assist is normal, as a usually, well working system?
I am waiting for your help.
Have a nice day,
Pawel

Hello Pawel,

We need to run the codes for the system which is done by using a CAN scanner. You can get a CAN scanner (Controller Area Network) which will work on most cars from Amazon.

Here is a video to show you how:

Here are the steering wiring diagrams so you can see how the system works. If the part numbers are the same for each rack you should be okay, but the steering rack must be programmed, and the steering angle sensor needs to be centered. Here is the correct way to replace the electronic steering rack and how to program the unit and center the angle sensor. I would also check the fuse #4 - 175 amp in the under-hood fuse panel Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.
