Hello, my car makes a loud whooshing/grinding noise (low pitched) when I brake slowly or when I coast to a red light for example. The brakes also squeal slightly/initially in the mornings or when I haven’t used the car in a few hours.

Hello,

It sounds like you could have worn pads. When the pads are worn, they are designed to make noise to let you know it is time to change them.

If the noise exists when you drive down the road, it could be due to a caliper that is sticking. This can also make the brake very hot.

Keep in mind if the pads get replaced, it is recommended to resurface the rotors (if they are with in limit) to extend the life expectancy and performance.

I have attached diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.
