After testing the alternator bit stated that the voltage regulator failed and I was wondering if it is located on the inside of the alternator or if it's a separate part located somewhere else, and if so, where that location would be?

Hello,

The voltage regulator is a part of the alternator.
It the part where the wire hooks to the alternator.
